Recently selected as Campaign Asia’s 40 Under 40, Daniel Cheng has been a pioneer in Shanghai’s advertising scene for the past 15 years. In 2013, upon leaving his brand management role at LVMH, Daniel started Metric Design Studio (MDS). Today, MDS has served over 200 clients, including the likes of fashion powerhouses MaxMara and Kipling, to luxury hospitality chains Shangri-La Hotels and Lamborghini Hotels, to the pharmaceutical giant Bayer.
Daniel is constantly challenged to conjure global campaigns and commercials for clients. It is from this passion of original creativity that Daniel began exploring producing and directing within the vast realm of international filmmaking. In 2021, Daniel co-founded Mimosa Productions, a production studio focused on Asian-led content, which produced two projects that placed as finalists at the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) IP Accelerator in 2022 and 2023.
Daniel holds an MBA with Merit from Imperial College Business School in London, a BSc from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Fulbright Scholarship. He is a native of Boston, and is currently enrolled in the School of Theater, Film & Television at UCLA for Producing. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, and conversational in Korean.
Born in Taipei, Joey Gu is a first-generation immigrant to the United States. His passion for creative expression at a young age led him to the Orange County Literary Festival as a winner of the Young Writers’ Contest at the age of ten. And his artistic aspirations further grew from working in local cinemas and in the music industry with SPIN.
He has contributed to The New York Times and other international publications for business, fashion, and entertainment. He also helps new or established storytellers to create exploratory works as the founder of a small independent publishing house, MoJo Press. Joey currently continues to develop creative projects as co-founder of Mimosa Productions, one of which was a finalist at the 24th Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) x Beach House Pictures Scripted Pitch in Singapore.
He is a summa cum laude graduate of Nanjing University with a Master’s in Business Management and holds a BA in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine. He is fluent in English and Chinese Mandarin and has a limited working proficiency in Spanish.
As co-creator of the award-winning talk show Hot Ones and show- runner for the hip-hop documentary series focused on icons Magnum Opus, Nate Chan is an experienced film producer, director, editor, and digital media creative. His production credits include directing and producing the talk show Jerry Seinfeld and Wale Discuss, as well as works for MTV and Adult Swim.
Nate has worked on several branded content campaigns for Adidas, McDonalds, and Google. Prior to that, he founded a creative agency focused on up-and-coming independent musicians while serving as one of the directors for the popular French music website La Blogotheque.
Nate holds a B.A. in Sociology from UC Irvine, is fluent in English and Cantonese, and currently resides in San Francisco.
Robert grew up in Miami, FL, and studied film at Robert Redford’s Sundance Filmmaker’s Lab (1999-2004). Later, he graduated with a degree in Creative Writing and Motion Pictures from the University of Miami. He began his career working on documentary and independent films before transitioning to directing his own commercial projects.
In 2016, he established Digital Carrots, a boutique video production agency that helps clients bring their “dreams to the screen”. For the past 9 years, he has been directing commercially across hospitality, food and beverage, and sports industries, with clients including AB Inbev, Shangri-La Hotels, Topgolf, and Stoke City United.
Currently, Robert is managing several projects under Digital Carrots in Shanghai, China.
Kimberly Yau, a second-generation immigrant of Chinese heritage, hailing from Guatemala, has grown up in a family of small business owners. She is currently a university student majoring in Interactive Media and Business at NYU Shanghai, where her strong interest lies in the business aspect of the film industry.
As a production assistant at Mimosa Productions in Shanghai, Kimberly actively contributes to the development of an exciting new film that was a finalist at the 23rd Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) IP Accelerator in 2022 and other upcoming projects. Her multilingual abilities, including fluency in Spanish and English, as well as conversational proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin, equip her to engage with diverse audiences and collaborate effectively in the global marketplace.
